An Englishman Abroad

Alan Bennett’s play recalls a scarcely believable meeting in Moscow between a
dishevelled British spy and a glamorous West End actress.
The meeting did actually take place. In 1958. Coral Browne was with a British
theatre company on a tour of Hamlet; Guy Burgess had already been exiled in
Moscow for seven years.
We discover these two highly disparate figures coming together for an
afternoon in a drab Moscow flat, with little in common but a taste for London
gossip and a capacity for verbal mischief.

“A direção sóbria de Elizabeth Bochmann, flui durante uma curta hora, tirando o maior proveito do excelente par de actores que tem nas suas mãos.  Estes são Celia Williams e Mick Greer, quem dão vida de forma animada a dois personagens que enchem o palco com graça e emoção.”

“Elizabeth Bochmann’s studied direction runs seamlessly for just under an hour, making the most of the great talent of her two actors.  Celia Williams and Mick Greer breathe life into their characters filling the stage with both laughter and emotion.”
