SYNOPSIS
The Lisbon Players are back with “Little Eyolf” at Teatro da Comuna from the 15th to 26th November – Wednesdays to Saturdays at 9pm and Sundays at 4pm.
This play, written in 1894, is one of Henrik Ibsen’s lesser-known plays and emerges as his first symbolist piece. Martim Mesquita Guimarães’ vision aims to embrace the symbolist nature of the work and seeks to emphasise the symbols that the Allmers family faces throughout the play.
The play follows a young family who finds itself on the threshold between their vocations, meledictions, and obligations. Submerged by the challenges and pressures that their lives bring them, the family attempts to find a new purpose when tragedy, separation, and the law of change affect the Allmers household.
This company, established in 1947 at Estrela Hall – where it performed until 2020 – now arrives at Teatro da Comuna – continuing its mission to present shows in the English language, with a diverse team of local and international artists.
The cast includes the young Portuguese-American actor Antony Cochran in the titular role and Carlota Crespo and Leonardo Progranó as his parents. The cast also includes Bruna Rocha, Inês da Cruz Oliveira, and Victor Caetano.
